The Safety Engineer is critical for ensuring the safety of individuals, equipment, and the environment by identifying hazards, developing safety protocols, and implementing safety measures to prevent accidents and injuries.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze workplace processes, equipment, and environments to identify potential hazards and assess associated risks, with an emphasis on ergonomics
  • Develop and implement safety procedures, policies, and standards to prevent accidents and injuries, including Process Safety Management/Risk Management Programs
  • Create and deliver technical training programs to employees and management on safety procedures, emergency protocols, and regulatory compliance, including Lockout/Tagout programs
  • Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to ensure compliance with safety regulations and best practices
  • Identify potential hazards associated with job functions and equipment, then present and implement corrective actions
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations to determine root causes and develop corrective actions to prevent recurrence
  • Stay informed of changes to OSHA and EPA regulations impacting the facility
  • Conduct required regulatory reporting with regards to the following: OSHA 300A, SARA 312/313 – Tier II/Tier III, Hazardous Waste, etc.
  • Present solutions for maintaining or achieving compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to the design and selection of safe equipment and systems, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Evaluate new equipment for safety requirements, such as machine guarding and interlocks
  • Communicate safety information effectively to all levels of the organization
  • Collaborate with plant engineers, maintenance, and technical specialists on safety initiatives
  • Maintain records as required by policy, practice, and procedures
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds over your head
  • Climbing into and under equipment
  • Frequently climbing stairs, ladders, and using cross-overs
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Profile

  • Role not eligible for sponsorship
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Engineering
  • Experience with Lockout/Tagout, machine guarding, workstation design a must
  • Experience with PSM/RMP programs preferred
  • Minimum 2-5 years experience in an industrial setting
  • Firm understanding of OSHA General Industry standards. Familiarity with EPA standards a plus
  • Experience with incident investigation and root cause analysis techniques (5-why, Fishbone, FMEA) highly desired
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds over your head
