Job Summary

This position guards the safety and health of occupants and users of buildings in Minnesota through inspection that assures compliance with the provisions of Minnesota Statutes and Rules regulating high-pressure piping used on all projects in the state. Provides technical support and consultation to clientele by applying advanced level understanding of all types of systems and equipment involving high pressure piping and ammonia, and the principles and practices of uniform application of laws, codes and regulations. Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

This position will work from a home office location and the inspection areas will be in the East/Northeast part of the state and include the counties of Aitkin, Anoka, Benton, Carlton, Cass, Chisago, Cook, Crow Wing, Dakota, Isanti, Itasca, Kanabec, Koochiching, Lake, Mille Lacs, Morrison, Pine, Ramsey, Sherburne, St. Louis, Washington.

The person in this position will be required to travel throughout the metro and state inspecting high pressure piping related equipment as assigned by their supervisor.

  • Current Minnesota HPP Journeyworker Pipefitter.
  • Knowledge of the ASME codes and standards, ASHRAE standards, IIAR standards and other applicable ammonia and high-pressure piping codes and standards.
  • Knowledge, application and enforcement of Minnesota Statutes 326B.90-326B.92 and Minnesota Rules Chapter 5230 sufficient to issue and hang "red tag" violations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of high-pressure piping construction and maintenance work including the practical use and application of materials, equipment, and tools.
  • Knowledge of building and various other construction codes related to high pressure piping.
  • Ability to administer the requirements for Journeyworker Pipefitter licenses by creating HPP examination items for Journeyworker High Pressure Pipefitters.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a broad base of clientele and DLI personnel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with individuals with a wide range of backgrounds, who do not share your same culture, ethnicity, language, or other common experiences.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current Master HPP Pipefitter license.
  • Ten (10+) years’ experience in the practical construction and installation of high pressure steam and ammonia refrigeration piping systems.
  • Certified Welding Inspector or Certified Associate Welding Inspector certification with the American Welding Society.
  • Language skills other than English (Somali, Spanish, Hmong, Karen or ASL)
